Active Shooter

Introduction: Faced with the proliferation of active shooter incidents across our nation, law enforcement and private security professionals within every community must acknowledge the absolute need for a paradigm shift in emergency deployment, tactics, policy and protocol. First responders must effectively respond to and stop an active shooter incident. Each element of instruction is based on lessons learned through “real life” experiences and the training standards that have been certified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Aim: This intensive course experience is designed to accomplish one goal: saving lives.

  • Historic overview of active shooter events
  • Radical Islamic terrorism and future active threats
  • Survival mindset and principles of active threat
  • Active shooter vs. barricade/hostage situations
  • Shooting on the move and CQB skills
  • Team formation and movement
  • Contact team and rescue team tactics
  • Approach, containment, and perimeter
  • Improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
  • Firearms and stress management
  • Force-on-force active threat encounters
  • Supervisory functions and responsibilities

Ammunition Requirements: 800 rounds of pistol ammunition.

Gear: Duty handgun, three 10-round or more magazines minimum (five preferred), duty belt with holster and pistol magazine pouch, weapons cleaning kit, wraparound eye protection and ear protection.

Comfortable clothing appropriate for climate and conditions, two to three long-sleeve shirts, gloves (able to access trigger guard), soft body armor or protective tactical vest, groin protection (vest attachment, athletic cup, or towel to be folded over beltline) flashlight, water bottle or other hydration system, notebook and pen.

Note: The following equipment will be strictly prohibited from entering the training area on days 4 and 5: Weapons of any kind, defense aerosols, live ammunition or magazines, batons or nightsticks, diversionary devices.

Method: This course involves classroom instruction, advanced firearms and close- quarters combat shooting which involves intense, realistic force-on-force active shooter scenario training.

Skill Prerequisites: Current law enforcement NEC and private security professionals only.

Duration: 4 days

Course Cost: $995.00 includes lunch each training day, use of weapon (Glock, Sig Sauer, or Beretta), cartridges, and required safety masks. Bunkhouse lodging is available at the North Carolina campus and may be reserved through your Sales Coordinator. Most items on the gear list may be rented via the application at additional cost or purchased at the On-site Store.
